Botox is the brand name of an injectable cosmetic treatment. It is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the area of the forehead, as well as between and around the eyes. It is a purified neurotoxin that works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. Once injected, the targeted muscles relax, decreasing their movement.
You can begin to see results as soon as 1-2 days following treatment, with full effect ranging between 7-14 days following injection.
Results are not permanent and typically last 3-4 months, at which point you can repeat the procedure. With time, some patients will require less frequent treatments.
