PRE CARE
Avoid sun exposure or sun burns at least twenty-four hours prior to treatment.
Do not exercise on the day of treatment, or avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration, as excess blood flow and sweat can cause discomfort and irritation to compromised skin for 72 hours.
If you are prone to herpes simplex outbreaks, such as cold sores, consult your provider on ways to treat prior or whether the procedure is appropriate for you.
If your face or treatment area has irritated skin (sunburn, infection, open wounds, sores) the day preceding your appointment, please contact our office before your appointment.
Wait six months following isotretinoin (Accutane) use.
Make sure you have used none of the following on the day of your appointment: lotions, makeup, perfume/cologne, after shave, ointments, and sunscreens.
Discontinue the use of topical products containing AHAs, Retinol/ Retinoids for 24 hours prior to your SkinPen procedure.
24 hours post-procedure, your provider may advise you to keep your skin clean of cosmetics or sunscreen for the remainder of the day.
POST CARE
Unexpected complications may occur when products not proven safe for use with microneedling are applied post-procedure.
The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure.
You will not be able to wear makeup for at least 24 hours following your procedure.
In the office the treatment area will be wiped with sterile saline and covered with HydraPeptide Gel.
Do not exercise on the day of treatment. Avoid sun exposure. At home on night of treatment do not cleanse the treatment area. You may rinse the treatment area with tepid water using fingertips only to massage skin. You may experience moderate redness, tightness, or a sunburned sensation. Apply nothing on the face except hyaluronic acid (provided in office), and apply as needed. No makeup can be worn.
On day 2 & 3 post-treatment some redness and swelling may be present. Cleanse skin using a gentle cleanser. Restore the skin using HydraPeptide Gel. Protect your skin using SPF 30. Repeat as necessary throughout the day. Avoid sun exposure. Exercise is still not recommended. By day three most redness, bruising, and swelling will be almost gone.
On day 4 resume your normal skin care routine. You may also resume exercise. Skin should return to its normal appearance without makeup.
Do not have any waxing done on the treatment area for two weeks post treatment.
Do not have any dermal fillers, botox, laser, chemical peels on the treatment area for 30 days.
Do not pick any flaking skin post treatment.
Wait at least one week before using a retinoid.
You may peel 3-5 days after treatment.
